Left-Leaning Bar Increase
This simple increase is also called the KFB or K1FB increase.
This common increase, also known as “knit in front and back” and abbreviated kfb or k1fb, can be used in a variety of situations, from one side of a thumb gusset, to knitted lace, to top-down raglan shaping, and more. The increase leaves a small hole, which is often used intentionally for decorative purposes.
The mirror image of this increase is the Right-leaning Bar Increase.
How to do it:
Basic Principle:
You’ll be knitting into the front and back of the same stitch.
Knit into the front leg of the stitch, as per usual, but do not pull the stitch from the non-working needle.
Knit into the back leg of the same stitch.
Pull the original stitch from the non-working needle. Instead of making only one new stitch, you should now have two new stitches with a little bar sitting horizontally across the base of the one on the left.
Congratulations! You’ve completed your increase!
