About Design

Construction

Hatband is worked in the round from a provisional cast on to make a closed tube, then three of the layers are connected in a circle with four-needle bind off while the fourth is worked back and forth to create a decorative button tab. Stitches are picked up from one side of the tube to make the crown, which is knit in the round.

Sizes

Measurements given are head circumference, not garment measurements. Age ranges are approximate.

CHILD SMALL: 17 to 18 inches (or 42.5 to 45 cm)
CHILD MEDIUM: 18.5 to 19.5 inches (or 46.3 to 48.8 cm)
LADIES’ SMALL: 20 to 21.5 inches (or 50 to 53.8 cm)
LADIES LARGE: 22.5 to 24 inches (or 56.3 to 60 cm)

Supplies

Yarn

1 (2, 3, 3) balls worsted-weight yarn with 99 metres in 50 grams (or 110 yards in 1.75 ounces)

Approximate yardages: 163 (195, 234, 280) yards [or 147 (176, 210, 252) metres]

Needles:

Set of five 4.0 mm (US 6) double-pointed needles, eight inches (fifteen centimetres) long, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Optional – Also use a 24-inch (or 60 cm) circular needle in the same size for crown
Set of five 3.5 mm (US 5) double-pointed needles for four-needle bind off
