Construction

Hat is worked in the round from the bottom up.

Head circumferences given.

1. Super Preemie: 9 inches (or 22.5 cm)

2. Preemie: 12 inches (or 30 cm)

3. Newborn: 14 inches (or 35 cm)

4. Baby (12 months): 16 inches (or 40 cm)

5. Toddler: 18 inches (or 45 cm)

6. Child: 20 inches (or 50 cm)

7. Youth & Adult Small: 21 inches (or 52.5 cm)

8. Adult Medium: 23 inches (or 57.5 cm)

9. Adult Large: 24 inches (or 60 cm)

Directions for altering crown depth included in the pattern.

Supplies

Yarn

1 (1, 1, 1, 2) (2, 2, 2, 2) skeins worsted-weight yarn with 100.6 meters in 50 grams (or 110 yards in 1.76 ounces).

Approximate yardages: 85 (92, 100, 109, 118) (129, 140, 152, 165) metres [or 93 (101, 110, 119, 129) (141, 153, 166, 181) yards].

Needles

• 5.0 mm (US 11 or UK 6) 24-inch (60-cm) circular needle OR size needed to obtain gauge. (Optional: Use a set of 5 double-pointed needles instead, especially for smaller hat sizes.)

• Small cable needle

• Stitch marker (multiple if you wish to mark pattern repeats)

Gauge

21.5 stitches and 31 rounds = 4 inches (or 10 cm) square over stockinette stitch knit in the round. TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE!

• Knit Picks’ High Desert Worsted, a plied worsted-weight 100% Shaniko wool yarn with 103 m in 50 grams (or 113 yards in 1.76-ounces) that knits up to 18 to 20 stitches per 4 inches (or 10 cm) on 4.0 to 5.5 mm (US 6 to 9, UK 8 to 5) needles.

• Colourway: Willow.

• Made in size 7, Adult Small.

BLUE:

• Knit Picks’ Wool of the Andes Worsted, a plied worsted-weight 100% Peruvian highland wool yarn with 101 m in 50 grams (or 110 yards in 1.76-ounces) that knits up to 18 to 20 stitches per 4 inches (or 10 cm) on 4.0 to 5.5 mm (US 6 to 9, UK 8 to 5) needles.

• Colourway: Calypso Heather.

• Made in size 8, Adult Medium.
